Cities often get a bad rap: too noisy, too crowded, too much crime. But in the eyes of local children, our communities are filled with fun, friends and great hot dogs.

No matter where you live or how old you are, certain things in life always take on prime importance; things like family, friends and having fun. We gave disposable cameras to several local children aged 6 to 16 and turned them into photojournalists for a day. They were asked to take shots of whatever was important to them.

Not surprisingly, their friends, family and pets were the most favourite subject.

Highlights in the area such as Gore Park Fountain, Dundurn Castle, Copps Coliseum, Bayfront Park, and even The Hamilton Spectator building also showed up, too.
It all looks so fresh, fun and interesting.
So, take a look on this Canada Day weekend at our communities through the eyes of children.

Lilly Tjeng, age 12.
" I like the natural beauty of the trails and waterfalls. I like how our city is so historical and patriotic about past wars, people who are friendly and active, school spirit, artistic subjects I can paint. I like beautiful scenes that inspire me when playing my piano, friends from my neighbourhood and school, a multicultural newspaper that I love to read daily. "

This is downtown Hamilton's Gore Park Fountain.
